A pay-as-you-go country (PayGo) country is a country that charges exorbitant rates for international data, voice, and SMS.
To avoid bill shock, we highly recommend turning airplane mode on while traveling to your final destination as your SIM card is now active for International Roaming and able to connect to any country’s network. If you connect to a PayGo country while in transit and use data, voice, and/or SMS, you are responsible for any incurred charges.
How it works:
Your SIM card starts to use services on towers local to a PayGo country. Once connected, our system will receive a report of your location. If the system detects the country you are in is a PayGo country, the system will temporarily deactivate your International Roaming to avoid bill shock. You will be notified via email that our systems were alerted of your high-rate location and deactivated your trip.
If you are visiting a PayGo country, we strongly recommend you use WiFi wherever possible and turn cellular data off to minimize unnecessary high charges.
If you do choose to use Voice or SMS while in a PayGo country, please note that you will be charged based on the rates in that country.
